Davis Fruit Tree Tier Project

Davis Garden

When we moved into our new home we found out we also had the slope all the down to the street below.  The it had ice plant and I didn’t think anything about it until my husband told me his idea of making tiers all the way down and put fruit trees.  My son-in-law is in constructions and the two finally talked me into this experiment.  The construction industry was slow and the two of them drew up the plans and estimated the cost.  Over the couple of months it slowly took shape. There were three tiers with stairs running down the middle.  There are grape arbors, kiwi and the large plant over the stairs is passion fruit.  They put in twenty trees, orange, blood orange, lime, orange, banana and avocado.  It take time for them to get established so we didn’t expect anything for a while.  The slope was entertainment for the entire neighborhood.  It is spring and the threes are all flowering.  We are still learning to care for our little orchard but it looks promising.  This has also been a great learning experience for our grandchildren as well.  Our dog, Brutus, patrols the area and is pretty funny to watch.  So get outside and turn an unused corner of your world into something you can grow with and enjoy the sunshine.
