Topsy Turvy All Girl Birthday Cake

Every year when my daughter has her birthday I feel very old.  This year I want to make her a fun cake all about her.  All the candy pieces from the lip stick to the sun glasses were made from Candy Melts and molds I purchased off the internet.  I am truly blessed to have such a great daughter.  Happy Birthday Kelly!

Barbie or Princess Belle Cake

Normally when I do a Barbie cake, it is with a pick that is only the upper body and head.  For this cake my friend brought the entire doll in to have a cake made from it.  Since this was much bigger than the normal Barbie Cake I had to add layers to the bottom to make it tall enough.  I purchased a doll stand and hot glued the stand to the cake board.  Once that was secure I wrapped the legs with plastic wrap, then stood the doll up to measure how tall the skirt had to be.  I added a couple of layers of cake at the bottom then the normal cone shaped cake.  The legs of the doll fit inside the stand.  I iced the cake with buttercream they put a fondant skirt on top to make the bottom of the dress. With the left over strips of fondant I fashioned the top then put buttercream stars and confetti where the shirt and skirt come together and also along the bottom.  The doll is Bell from Beauty and the Beast and once the doll was cleaned up and dressed after the cake was cut the little girl was able to keep a little piece of her cake that will last for years to come.

Green Dump Truck Cake

This little dump truck cake was a hit with little boys no matter what age.  The cake is buttercream icing except the tires.  If you start with chocolate icing and add black food coloring gel you won’t have to use too much.

Two Tone Cupcakes with Lips, Purses and Shoes

Never under estimate the power of a display.  I purchased this cupcake tower at Michaels and have used it an a couple of my bake sales.  It catches the eye and the cupcake don’t last very long.  You can dress up plain cupcakes with just some fun picks.  For this one I purchased some picks that had high heels, purses and lips from the Orange County Novelty Company.  They are one the net or if you live in southern California they are located in Costa Mesa.  The get the two tone effect, paint a stripe of gel food coloring in your piping bag and add white icing.

Mini Sand Castle Cake and Matching Cupcakes

This is a six inch mini cake with a cupcake for the top tier.  The sea shells are chocolate and must be attached to the buttercream before you can cover with the sand.  The sand I made with Nilla Wafers crushed.  Top it off with a sea shell sign on a skewer.

Cookie Cutter Shelf

I wanted a small shelf for all of my cookie cutters.  My husband put a 1’x1′ piece of wood all around the kitchen area.  I painted the wood and had a great little place to display my cookie cutters.

Fall Leaf Cake and Matching Cupcakes

Tomorrow I am hosting a bake sale with an end of summer theme.  We will be raising funds for the Red Cross disaster relief efforts.  The mini cake and cupcake are fast and easy to make.  I have put together several of these bake sales and they are a lot of work but also a lot of fun.  For everyone that doesn’t know how to use the piping bags and tips we are going to have a decorating party in my office tomorrow morning.

Sweet 16 Zebra and Lots of Bling Cake

One of my friends daughter is going to get a little surprise tomorrow when I deliver this one.  The sugar gems were the hardest.  It was my first time and I made a mess of the first two batches.  The zebra print is sugar sheets you can get at Michaels or JoAnns.

Acorn, Leaf & Pumpkin Rice Krispy Candy

This is fun and easy to make.  Paint the candy mold with candy melts then layer in rice krispy and add another layer of candy melts.  Put in the freezer for 10 minutes then pop out.  For the two tone effect I had red on one side of my chocolate melting pot and orange on the other. Spoon in a little of both and swirl to get that fantastic fall leaf color.  For the acorns paint a little chocolate on top and sprinkle chocolate sprinkles.

Turtle & Dinosaur Eggs

To make these eggs you must first make sure they are cleaned out and then wash then in an antibacteria wash and let dry.  Paint eggs with clear finger nail polish.  The second coat is with nail polish call crackle whick give it the cracked egg look.  One more coat of clear nail polish over that and you are ready to cut the opening.  For the dinosaur I used cuticle scissors and slowly cut around the opening until you have it large enough.  Don’t forget to cut a hole in the back for the tail.  Use hot glue to attach to a base.  I use a small piece of cardboard then decorate with moss and flowers.  For the turtle I used some glue and put sand on the cardboard first before I glued down the egg and added shells.

Sea Horse Rice Krispy Treat

I used a sea horse sand toy (it had never been touched by sand), spray the plastic mold with pan butter flavor cooking spray and press the rice krispy into the mold.  Put it in the freezer for 10 minutes then you can take it out and decorate it with some icing.
