Chocolate Tool Box Cake/Candy

Father’s Day is right around the corner and what better way than to give Dad a chocolate tool box.  Better yet put it on his favorite cake and he just may forget that your boy friend blew up the mailbox with a cherry bomb.

The tool box and tools candy mold I purchased a KitchenKraft.com for under $3.

Barbie Cupcakes

These little Barbie cupcakes are made using the wonder mold by Wilton which is available at Michael’s or JoAnn’s craft stores or on the internet.  Ice the cupcakes with buttercream and drape fondant over the cupcake to make the skirt.  The doll is a pick that you can make the shirt out of strips of the left over fondant and decorate.

Painting on Fondant

I used gel food color to paint on fondant for this cake.  One of my friends wanted a birthday cake with a picture of her bosses bird on it.  You can take clear vanilla extract and gel food color to paint on fondant like water colors.  The clear vanilla extract will dry in just a few minutes.  The flowers were also fondant made with a cookie cutter.   If you can’t draw very well you can always photocopy the image you want to put on your cake.  Cut the picture out and then lay it down on the fondant to get the basic shape.  If the picture is more complex then cut it in sections and lay those out as guides to outline where you want to paint.  This type of cake will be something that they will love and talk about for years to come.

Flower Pot Cupcake and Candy Flowers

You can take a small flower pot that you can pick up from your local craft store, place a cupcake inside and ice the top with green icing.  Michaels or JoAnn’s craft stores have the candy mold to make the flowers.  If you haven’t worked with candy molds they are easy to use and clean up.  You can buy various colors of candy melt wafers that can be melted in a microwave or chocolate melting pot.  Put the candy in the mold and insert a stick then throw in the freezer for 5 minutes.  You are ready to plant your flowers.  This is a great little gift for birthdays or just to cheer up someone.
