Loch Ness Monster Cake

Tomorrow is my daughter’s birthday and my granddaughter had the suggestion for the cake.  She always comes up with a tough one.  The Loch Ness monster is made with some green sour licorice.  Insert toothpicks in the bottom of the licorice to make the arches of it’s body.  The boat is made out of tootsie rolls.  The baby Loch Ness is made with green taffy.  The sand is crushed Nilla Wafers.  The little girl is a Squinkies toy.

Cat & Dog Flip Doll

I made this for my daughter a long time ago and my granddaughter found it today.  It is basically two dolls in one.  If you flip the skirt up on one side you have a cat doll.  Then it you flip is to the other side it is a dog doll.   The skirt has elastic waist and is tacked on the side.  The faces I painted with fabric paint.  My parents had brought back a flip doll where one side with goldy locks and the other a wolf.  She loved playing with it so I decided to do one myself.

Halloween Duck Tape Treat Boxes

When I was at JoAnn’s craft store they had just put out some duck tape for Halloween.  I purchased some cardboard treat boxes and started playing.  I used matching felt for the bottom of the boxes.  This is a great project for any age.

Witch Hat Cupcake Holder with Crazy Spiders

witch hat cc holderWitch Hat cupcake holder is a great centerpiece for any celebration.  I purchased the cardboard hats at JoAnn’s Craft store, painted it black and attached some cute foam stickers.  Add some mini cupcakes or brownies and you have a festive display.  I also bought the wire legs for the spiders at JoAnn’s as well.  Just place the cupcake on the wire frame-work.  For the eyes I used some soft peppermints with a little black icing.

Halloween Earrings from a bracelet

This last weekend I went to the gem show at the Orange County Fair Grounds.  I wanted to find some beads for the upcoming holidays.  There were all type strands with great beads but I didn’t want an entire strand of the same bead.  Every time we go my granddaughter has a hard time getting past the first couple of tables that have bracelets for $1.50 each.  I have bought some just to get a few beads that I really liked.  I found a vendor that had the Halloween bracelets for sale.  It was perfect to make a couple of pairs of earrings for some of my friends who have birthdays in October.

Make your own Halloween Mask

Michaels has most of their Halloween kits out now.  I bought the kit shown in the upper left hand corner.  It comes with everything to make the mask or you can do whatever by using some bling or even feathers.  My grandchildren had a sleep over on Saturday night and we made the mask as an activity. They had a lot of fun and it didn’t destroy the entire house in the process.

I just purchased this woopie pie pan from JoAnn’s.  I made some molasses cookies to try it out.  With the left over dough I put it a mini cupcake pan.  Great treats for any age.

Recycle Crazy Headbands

When New Years or Graduation is over what do you do with the crazy headband you bought?  Most are thrown in a drawer or trash can.  Why not recycle them and make them into fun Halloween, monster or school pompom headbands.  There are endless possibilities and with a little hot glue, pompom, wiggle eyeballs your kids can have lots of fun!
