Milk Chocolate Rice Krispy Rat Candy Bars

I know this sounds gross but they went like hot cakes at last year’s Halloween Bake Sale.  They are easy to make.  Just fill the mold 1/4 of the way with chocolate and make sure that you get out all the bubbles.  Add the rice krispys then add more chocolate on top and smooth the back and place in the freezer.  Add a drop of red for the eyes and they are ready to decorate any table.

Witches Fingers & Mummy Pretzels

I’ve started making my Witches Fingers and Mummy Chocolate coated pretzels for our upcoming bake sale.  The are fast and easy to do.  The molds you can get at Michaels or JoAnns or on the intern.  This is also an easy projects for kids.  Fill half the mold with the candy melts then add the pretzel and cover the back.  Pop them in the freezer and when they come out clean up the edges and add eyes and mouth with chocolate or black candy melts and you have a treat for all ages.

Halloween Candle Holder/Center Piece

I made these as desk decorations for some of my friends at work.  I painted a wood base dark green but you don’t have to use a base if you don’t want to do the florial arrangements.  On the inside of the luminary I painted it with glass paint then sprinkled in some very fine glitter.  Now the fun part, you can use just about anything to decorate these with.  On Frankenstein, I just a Frankenstein whistle, and the witches hat I used a finger puppet.  Add some pumpkins, flowers, and black cats and you have an inexpensive gift or center piece.

Trick or Treat Brownies

These little trick or treaters bring a lot of smiles to any graveyard.  Michaels has a kit that makes these finger puppets.  I hot glued a skewer on the inside of these finger puppets for this brownie.  I also make these little puppets and hot glue them to pencils each year to give out to trick or treaters.  In the past I’ve put them in floral decorations.  You can leave them on desk tops around the office with some candy or just let the kids play with them.  The kit makes 40 finger puppets and is well worth the money for all the smiles you will see.

Grave Yard Brownies

These are always a hit when I make them for our bake sales at work.  I use a mini loaf pan and you can use either chocolate cake or brownies.  Cut the top off cake/brownie and ice with chocolate icing.  Place the bones in the chocolate and the top piece you just cut off, crumble it over the bones.  I purchased the skelton mold from Michaels.  My biggest problem with these is I never make enough.

Going Batty for Halloween

This Bat Cake is a fun center piece for any party.  I purchased the pan from Michaels.  I used a chocolate icing then added place food coloring gel to get the dark black color.  If you start with a white icing you will have to use quite a bit of food coloring gel to get it dark enough.  Don’t forget some candy corn fangs!

Spider Web Cake

It is time start thinking about all the fun we will have this year for Halloween.  This little spider web cake is easy to do and a lot of fun for the kids.  The spider in the middle of the web is made from a candy melt and mold.  The rest of the spiders are little rings that I give our each year on Halloween.

Decorating Pumpkins Craft Day

My Friends and I get together for destress sessions at work every once in a while.  With Halloween right around the corner we decided to decorate pumpkins last year.  Everyone brought glue guns, wiggly eyes, felt to make hats, feathers and anything else we could use.  My pumpkin was the cat above.  The rest were from my friends.  All in all we had a great time and hopefully this will give you some ideas on how to decorate your pumpkins.

Mini Pumpkin Cakes

Fall has arrived and it’s time to get out the halloween pans to see what I have for this year. The pumpkins above is a over sized cupcake where the top and bottom are baked separately.  Cut to even the top and bottom then ice the middle.  I used a tootsie roll for the stem.  Once iced add some leaves and vines and they are ready to be served.  Happy Fall!

Lady Bug Cupcake

These are great for kids to make.  Frost the cupcake with pink icing.  You can use a large round tip to make the head then changed into a smaller tip to draw the straight line and dots.  Use a star tip and make little star for each eye then fill in with a black dot.  Another way to do this is to take a small oreo as the head and fill in with white stars and smile, then a dot of black for the eye.  Either way the kids had a lot of fun.  When we made these my granddaughter they told me that we needed some purple and green ladybugs as well.

Fondant Cut Outs for Cupcakes

When I first started out I had several classes for kids.  On one class I took out some fondant and showed the kids how to color fondant using a toothpick and gel food coloring.  The fondant was just like play dough and kids are expert when it comes to that.  Next everyone rolled out their fondant and using cookie cutters cut them for their cupcakes.  While the fondant is still soft I showed them how to gently insert a toothpick into the fondant so that we could stand up their creations.  For the bunny they used the grass tip and some confetti flowers.  I had several different types of sprinkles and the kids added MM’s adding just a little bit of icing to make if adhere to the fondant.  For the babies I showed them how to take a toothpick and a little bit of food coloring gel to make the eyes and smile.  We found the hearts in the left over sprinkles from Valentine’s day basket.  After 1/2 hour you can stand up the fondant shapes and add them to your cupcakes.

Train Cupcakes

My grandson is a train nut.  I found this pan at a thrift store for a few dollars and it was a hit.  Every so often I check out the local thrift stores in the area.  A lot of people will buy cake and cupcake pans for a special occasion then never use them again and donate them.  I have found some vintage Mickey Mouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even Donal Duck.  You can pay pennies on the dollar and if you are just starting out it is a great way to stock up on not only cake and cupcake pans but also serving trays and cake boxes.
